About Heritage Housekeepers
Twenty years ago, I set out to hire a cleaning company. Instead, I ended up starting one.
At the time I was working in corporate marketing and communications and simply wanted help keeping my home clean. What I found instead was an industry that was surprisingly disappointing. Appointments were often cancelled, cleaning was terrible, and the cleaners themselves were completely unprofessional. I was amazed at the lack of customer service, training, and skill that seemed to exist. I knew I could do so much better if I did it myself.
So I started my own company.
That first business grew into one of the most respected residential cleaning companies in the country, serving thousands of homes and cleaning for high-profile clients, including professional NHL players. Over the years I went on to build multiple cleaning companies in Canada and the USA, train thousands of professionals through my training school Glisten Academy, and spend more than two decades working inside the cleaning industry.
But the idea behind Heritage Housekeepers™ actually comes from something much simpler.
Some of my favorite memories have always been staying in the finest hotels; Fairmont properties in the Canadian Rockies, like Jasper, Banff and Lake Louise.
There is a certain feeling when you walk into a truly great hotel room. The bed is perfectly made. The towels are folded neatly. The bathroom sparkles. Everything feels calm, organized, and quietly taken care of.
It is not just about everything being clean and perfectly appointed. It’s about history, Marilyn Monroe having stayed in this very room. Queen Elizabeth booking this suite every time she comes to Toronto. Or Steven Tyler from Aerosmith losing his dog in the hallway at the Fairmont Hotel McDonald, where I married my husband in 2023. The memories, the history, the way the staff treat you like royalty, because they actually service royalty, both real (British) and modern-day (rock stars). I’ve been in awe of this my whole life and been determined to bring this feeling and experience to my own customers.
And for years I kept thinking the same thing: why doesn’t home cleaning feel like this?
Most cleaning companies focus on surfaces. Counters get wiped. Floors get vacuumed. The cleaners leave. But the beds are still unmade, the dishwasher is full, laundry is sitting on the chair, and the house never quite reaches that finished, put-together feeling.
And strangely, the industry has become more and more comfortable saying no.
No, we don’t make beds.
No, we don’t do dishes.
Laundry isn’t included.
Please tidy up before we arrive.
At some point it starts to feel a little backwards. If the homeowner is still doing half the work before the cleaners arrive, what exactly is the service meant to accomplish?
Heritage Housekeepers™ was created to bring a different philosophy to residential cleaning.
I wanted to build a company that brings the feeling of luxury hotel housekeeping into private homes. Not just wiping surfaces, but caring for the details that actually make a home feel comfortable, organized, and finished. This is why NHL players choose us for their housekeeping services.
That might mean making the beds. Resetting the kitchen. Loading the dishwasher. Refreshing towels. Helping with laundry or light organization. Some clients simply want a beautifully cleaned home, while others appreciate the flexibility of a more complete housekeeping service that helps keep the household running smoothly.
Either way, the goal is the same.
